Screening at SIFF

I’m a little early this week (and yes I will still post on my normal day) but I wanted to share something exciting and time is of the essence.

For a long time now I’ve been talking about a film that I’ve been working on called The Breach.  Now I haven’t actually worked on it in about a year as it’s been in post-production for a while and my role ended last summer, but I’m excited to say that it’s actually screening!10271559_839988009362041_2148807514626219220_n

Wanderlust :: Aloha

Makai Creative

Be honest.  When you hear the word Hawai’i doesn’t your heart begin to flutter and the idea of going to the islands in the middle of the Pacific intrigue you just a little- even to the point of distraction?  Well it does for me.  When I’ve had it with things at home, Hawaii is usually one of the first places that I think of escaping to.

I’m not entirely sure what it is about the small chain of islands but it always sounds heavenly.  I’ve been once.  For four days.  Yes, all that way for four days and I loved it!  Someday I hope to go back for a lot longer than an extended weekend and hope to visit more than just the island of Oahu.  It is a beautiful place but I would love to see all of the other terrains.

Perhaps this video isn’t what we all expect of the Pacific island but it just shows the diversity of whats sitting there in the middle of the ocean.

Wanderlust :: Vino

filmit

Now I’ve never been to Slovenia let alone to a vineyard in Slovenia but I have been to several vineyards.  There is something so serene about these specialized farms and they are the perfect getaway for just a few hours.  Its possible that after several wine tastings its just the fermented grape juice that I’ve been sampling that makes me feel that way but I beg to differ.

Since I can’t travel overseas at the moment, perhaps a visit to a vineyard is the perfect antidote… For now I will settle for a glass of wine.

Wanderlust :: Making the most of where you are

After my rather whiny post last week I think I’ve gotten it out of my system.  Don’t you hope!

Now that we are well into May I feel like things are looking up.  The promise of day trips to the mountains and adventure lingers in the air- summer is rapidly approaching!  This makes me happy just thinking about because maybe soon the weather won’t be so grey. Yahoo!

I found this video that made me appreciate the ability to be outdoors even when you live in the city.  I really don’t have room to complain because I live in a city that is sparsely populated compared to NYC but I was inspired none-the-less.

Happy nearly-Summer!

Wanderlust :: Mexico

Ok ok, so I just got back from a quick trip to Mexico for a friend’s wedding, and you would have thought that would have helped with the travel cravings.  But like I’ve said before, it only made me want to travel more.  Tough luck for me because I’m not going anywhere for a while.  Or at least its looking that way…

So to help commemorate my time away I present to you this video of Mexican food.  I warn you- it will make you hungry so try not to watch on an empty stomach:

The Perennial Plate

Don’t you just love all the colors?!

If you’re into food and especially into trying new food when you travel, make sure to check out The Perennial Plate.  They have a great catalogue of videos celebrating the diversity of good food in the world.

Anywhere but here

In the last couple of months I can’t help but wish that I were

anywhere-but-here

Its probably a combination of the winter grey, being in the city for the last few months and the fact that I really haven’t travelled in a while that is getting me down.  I have this feeling of wanting to go anywhere as long as its not along the northern part of the I-5 corridor.  Then again I wouldn’t mind going to Canada for a long weekend…

Admittedly I just got back from a quick jaunt to Mexico for a wedding, but I think that only made things worse… I want to go somewhere completely different that puts me out of my element.  That, unfortunately, is not going to happen any time soon, so instead of I’ve been watching videos that help me feel like I’m somewhere else.  Even if its only a couple of minutes.  Stay tuned for a few that I’ve loved!

Meet :: The Fashion Designer

I’d like to introduce Leanne Marshall, the Fashion Designer:

I see several dresses here that I would love to try on.  For now though, I will look on admiringly as anything I sew inevitably looks no where near as nice as what you see here.

What do I love about this video?  I love the close ups where you can see the tiny details in the dress structure etc.  I don’t usually look at those kinds of things on my own clothes and it gives me a greater appreciation for the structure of the clothing.

Meet :: The Sound Designer

Please meet this sound designer:

storm and shelter

I thought it only right to feature a sound designer today after working with so many different people in the industry over the last few months.  I don’t have as much use for an artist like this in documentary as we are supposed to be recording as we film and usually we are trying to take these kinds of noises out.  Therefore I find this story fascinating.

The best part about this film?  The editing.  Recording the sounds is one thing, but to edit it together to make these noises sound like music is a real gift.

Something by me…

It’s been a while since I’ve shared something that I’ve worked on and this is why:

I’ve been working on something much larger than a 5 minute short. For the last 8 months I have been working as an Associate Producer for a feature length documentary:

With the rapid emergence of digital devices, an unstoppable, invisible force is changing human lives in ways from the microscopic to the gargantuan: Big Data, a word that was barely used a few years ago but now governs the day for many of us from the moment we awaken to the extinguishing of the final late-evening light bulb.

This massive gathering and analyzing of data in real time is allowing us to not only address some of humanity biggest challenges but is also helping create a new kind of planetary nervous system. Yet as Edward Snowden and the release of the NSA documents has shown, the accessibility of all this data comes at a steep price.

The Human Face of Big Data captures the promise and peril of this extraordinary knowledge revolution. The film is narrated by Joel McHale.

I’m very excited to announce that this film will be screening at several festivals in the next few weeks and we are waiting to hear from several more.  For those in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Boston, Palm Beach, or Newport Beach please check out their schedules for screening times.

I will do my best to update screening times and new locations.  If you’re trying to find screenings in a certain location, please feel free to send me a note for more details.
